Position Overview
We are seeking a Financial Planning & Operations Intern for a structured, education and experience focused internship designed to provide foundational exposure to the financial planning profession.
The intern will gain guided experience across personal financial planning, business advisory concepts, retirement plan support, and internal advisory firm operations. Activities will follow a defined training plan with mentorship, documented competencies, and formal evaluation.
This is a temporary, in-person internship based in our Gillette, WY office.
Key Responsibilities & Learning Objectives
All responsibilities are completed under supervision and are structured as learning exercises.
Operations & Professional Development
- Participate in structured workflow documentation and process-learning projects
- Gain guided exposure to CRM systems and internal planning tools
- Complete assigned readings and competency-based learning modules
- Deliver midpoint and final presentations demonstrating skill development
Personal Financial Planning (Track 1)
- Assist with organizing client financial data and planning documentation
- Observe and practice foundational concepts including cash flow, retirement modeling, and risk management
- Prepare draft summaries or planning worksheets for advisor review
- Observe select client meetings for professional exposure
Business Growth & Exit Planning (Track 2)
- Assist with organizing business financial statements and related data
- Learn introductory concepts in profitability analysis, owner compensation, and cash flow review
- Observe financial recasting and business valuation methodologies
- Support development of mock or supervised case study analyses
Employee Benefits & Retirement Plans (Track 3)
- Assist with organization of 401(k) enrollment and plan materials
- Learn foundational plan design concepts including match structures and profit sharing
- Observe participant enrollment and rollover workflows
- Gain introductory exposure to retirement plan compliance processes
Educational Structure
This internship follows a defined 16-week learning framework that includes:
- Formal onboarding and compliance training
- Weekly 1:1 mentor meeting
- Supervised skill-building exercises
- Midpoint and final evaluations
- Capstone project presentation
The internship emphasizes professional growth, ethical awareness, and career readiness within the financial planning profession.
Qualifications
Required or Strongly Preferred
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a program related to Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related field OR
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in financial planning, business advisory, or wealth management
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes
- Professional communication skills
- Basic computer literacy, including comfort with spreadsheets and written documentation
- Commitment to confidentiality and fiduciary standards
Preferred (Not Required)
- Coursework in personal finance, investments, accounting, or business
- Interest in CFP®, CPA, EA, CEPA, or other financial credentials
- Prior internship, customer service, or professional office experience

Hiring Timeline
