Tax & Business Advisor
(CPA / EA preferred)
About JH Pierce Wealth Management PC
JH Pierce Wealth Management PC is an independent advisory firm serving business owners and high-income families, with a strong focus on rural America. We operate under a planning-first, implementation-second philosophy and deliver integrated advice across three core tracks:
- Personal Financial Planning
- Business Growth & Exit Planning
- Employee Benefits & Retirement Plans
We are intentionally building an internal team of specialists who collaborate deeply to deliver clarity, strategy, and execution—not siloed advice.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Tax & Business Advisor to lead tax planning and tax return preparation for firm clients while playing a central role in our Business Growth & Exit Planning (Track 2) services.
This is not a traditional compliance-only accounting role. The ideal candidate enjoys tax strategy, financial analysis, and working directly with business owners, helping them understand how decisions today affect profit, business value, and long-term personal wealth.
Tax preparation will be provided exclusively for firm clients—we do not offer standalone or high-volume tax-only engagements.
This role will collaborate closely with our financial advisors, planners, and operations team and will have the opportunity to grow into a key leadership position as the firm expands.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Planning & Tax Preparation (Track 1 & Track 2)
- Lead proactive tax planning for financial planning and business owner clients
- Prepare and/or oversee preparation of:
- Individual tax returns
- Business tax returns (primarily pass-through entities)
- Identify tax-saving strategies aligned with broader financial and business goals
- Coordinate tax strategy with investment, retirement, insurance, and exit planning recommendations
- Serve as the internal tax expert for the advisory team
Business Financial Analysis & Exit Planning Support (Track 2)
- Perform financial recasting and normalization for closely held businesses
- Conduct:
- Financial recasting and benchmarking
- Business valuation calculations using established methodologies and data sources
- Gap analysis across Profit, Business Value, and Owner Wealth
- Support exit planning engagements through financial modeling and analysis
- Collaborate with advisors to translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations for business owners
CFO & Advisory Services (Track 2)
- Assist in delivering fractional CFO-style services for select business clients, including:
- Financial analysis and reporting
- Cash flow insights, including:
- 12-month budgets
- Budget vs. actual reporting
- 12-week cash flow forecasts
- Strategic decision support
- Help refine internal processes, tools, and frameworks to support scalable business advisory services
Internal Collaboration & Process Development
- Work closely with financial planners, paraplanners, and operations staff
- Contribute to improving internal workflows, templates, and analytical tools
- Participate in client meetings, when appropriate, to explain tax strategies or financial findings
Qualifications & Experience
Required or Strongly Preferred
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred
- Strong background in:
- Tax preparation and proactive tax planning
- Accounting and financial statement analysis
- Working with small to mid-sized businesses
- Ability to analyze financial data and communicate insights clearly to non-financial clients
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with business valuation or exit planning
- CEPA designation (or willingness to pursue after hire)
- Familiarity with advisory firms, fractional CFO services, or wealth management
- CFP®, Series 65, or similar credentials (not required)
Who This Role Is Ideal For
This role is a great fit for someone who:
- Enjoys thinking strategically, not just preparing returns
- Wants deeper client relationships and long-term impact
- Is interested in business owner advisory work and exit planning
- Prefers a collaborative, planning-driven environment over high-volume compliance work
- Is comfortable growing with a firm rather than stepping into a rigid, predefined role
Compensation & Growth
- Competitive compensation based on experience and credentials with biweekly pay schedule
- Company paid health insurance
- 401(k) and profit sharing plan
- Company paid gym/health club membership
- Opportunity for long-term growth, expanded responsibility, and leadership
- Support for professional development and continuing education (including CEPA, if desired)
